AIS, Mastercard, Visa, Unionpay, Oceancard and Transcard credit cards are accepted at banks, CADECAS and ATMs, as long as they have not been issued by US banks or their affiliates. You can withdraw cash from ATMs in national currency, respecting the current exchange rate of the different currencies, according to the fluctuation in the world market.

Bank cards are the safest way to carry money. However, I recommend you bring cash, since the number of establishments in the province that accept debit and credit cards is limited.

You can buy in stores using your cards, through the POS service, applied at the current exchange rate.

If you are staying in private homes, you must have cash as this is the only accepted payment method.

To change money at banks and CADECAS, always carry your passport.

You have to know that the Cuban peso is not valid or exchangeable outside of Cuban territory, so upon your departure, you must change it to the currency you deem appropriate. Always use authorized exchange offices.

NEW MLC PREPAID CARDS
They are issued by the Banco de Crédito y Comercio (BANDEC). Exclusive use in the national territory.
Valid for the payment of goods and services in the commercial network of MLC.
The cards are printed with the amount of 1000, 500 and 200 MLC, as well as the expiration date.
Cash withdrawals can only be made in CUP (Cuban pesos) in the ATM network at the official 24 x 1 exchange rate. The bank is not responsible for the loss of the card.
The amount is not refundable in foreign currency, the bank is not obliged to return the unused or excess amount.
Doubts, clarification or loss of card, should be communicated to the number 80201996 or by going to any BANDEC branch in the country.

The Cuban peso (CUP) is the legal tender in Cuba. Officially, 24 Cuban pesos are equivalent to 1 peso of freely convertible currency (1 US dollar).
