Cuba announced a set of measures, from January 1st, in order to stop the increase of Covid-19 cases in the country related to the arrival of international travelers. The most significative news was the reduction of visitors coming from United States, Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
Mercedes Vázquez, head of Air Transport and International Relations from the Civil Aeronautic of Cuba (IACC, Spanish acronyms), explained to Granma journal that airlines have been informed about the requirement that travelers must submit a negative PCR test from January 10th on; and the temporary readjustment of flights coming from the aforementioned countries which regulates flights frequencies concerning days, hours and airports as well as the reduction of operations.
The arrival of international travelers has triggered Covid-19 imported cases and the contact of these ones with other people, reaching 71.5% of the total cases detected in the last weeks; mainly linked to Cuban citizens from the countries already mentioned, explains a brief from the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba.
Consequently, Copa Airlines has announced the reduction of its three weekly flights covering the route Panama-Havana from January 1st, which frequencies are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between José Martí and Tocumen airports. While flights that link Santa Clara and Holguín airports in Cuba were cancelled until further notice.
Special flights will be available during January first weeks so that passengers that are still in Cuba can return to their destinations. In case of Cuban passengers, it is a requirement, previous communication with the Cuban Consulate in Panama.
