At the airports there are Exchange Offices (CADECA) open 24 hours, we suggest when you arrive in Cuba, change your money to CUP before leaving the airport.
Always change in CADECA (official exchange offices) or in Banks, avoid changing with unauthorized persons for these purposes.
US dollars (USD) will not be accepted, at the Exchange Houses (CADECA) it will be possible to exchange the currencies of Canadian dollar (CAD), Swiss franc (CHF), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), Japanese yen (JPY) ) and Mexican pesos (MXN).
The cards to operate in Cuba are: VISA, MASTERCARD, American International Service (AIS), not issued by institutions or banks in the United States or offices of these institutions in other countries. 
 
About Prepaid Cards in Freely Convertible Currencies:

Available for travelers residing abroad.
It is acquired in the currencies listed by CADECA: Canadian dollar, pound sterling, Swiss franc, Japanese yen, Mexican peso and euro.
With amounts of 1000, 500, 200, 100 and 50, available in the network of CADECA offices, airports, hotels and ports.
Valid for the payment of goods and services in the commercial network such as: hotel reservations, excursions, purchases in stores, purchase of airline tickets, car rental, restaurant and cafeteria services, among others.   
 
This Card is not personalized, so it can be operated by those who have their PIN.
 
At the request of the client, the balance of the Card is reimbursed by CADECA to the tourist in freely convertible currency, when leaving the country, at international airports, in one of the foreign currencies of which they are quoted.
 In Cuba you can change the following currencies: Canadian dollar, British pound, Mexican peso, Swiss franc, euro, Danish krone, Norwegian krone, Swedish krona, Japanese yen, Cuban peso and US dollar.

Cuban pesos circulate with the following face values: bills of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 pesos, as well as fractional coins of different values. For greater security, the banknotes have: security thread visible against the light; relief printing: the main elements of the obverse are raised to the touch; Watermark visible against the light with the denomination of the banknote and the effigy of José Martí.
AIS, Mastercard, Visa, Unionpay, Oceancard and Transcard credit cards are accepted at banks, CADECAS and ATMs, as long as they have not been issued by US banks or their affiliates. You can withdraw cash from ATMs in national currency (CUP), respecting the current exchange rate of the different currencies, according to the fluctuation in the world market.
You can buy in stores using your cards, through the POS service, applied at the current exchange rate.
If you are staying in a rent house, you must have cash since this is the only accepted means of payment.
To change money at Banks and CADECA, always carry your passport.

 

The Cuban peso (CUP) is the legal currency in Cuba. Officially, 24 Cuban pesos are equivalent to one US dollar.
