Contest of Literature and Plastic Arts Regino E. Boti
It is held in the 1st week of June, is an event that pays homage to the Cuban intellectual who revolutionized the Cuban poetry of the 20th century with his book Arabescos Mentales.
Conferences, round tables, book presentations, recitals of poetry and exhibitions of painting and engraving, stand out among the activities organized for four days by the Provincial Book and Literature Center, with the support of the Culture Sector, the Council of the Arts Plastic and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, UNEAC, in the territory.
Guantanamo Carnival
Celebrated in the month of August in honor to San Joaquin. The summer and hot month is the best opportunity to know the idiosyncrasy of Guantanamo and dance to the rhythm of the traditional songs and changones, as well as the parades of congas and folk characters. It is a beautiful spectacle of floats and parades, it is a wave of joyful and carnival town that enjoys and shares solidarity with visitors and friends.
Day of the Political Song
Created for the initiative of young people of the new trova to pay homage to the martyrs of the Revolution. For four decades it has been a prestigious event with the participation of personalities of the song like Sara González, Carlos Valera, Santiago Feliú, Gerardo Alfonso and Polito Ibáñez. Every year the day is convened by the AHS of Guantanamo and is celebrated from the 1st to the 4th of August with the participation of young Cuban artists.
Day of Cuban Culture
Held in Guantanamo and the rest of the country as a worthy homage to Cuban culture. It is a faithful exponent of traditions and identity through a varied range of activities of all artistic manifestations. It extends to all localities of the province.
Guantanamo’s Book Fair
Convened by the Cuban Book Institute, it is the most populous event on the island. The Book Fair in Guantánamo attracts writers from all over Cuba and is accompanied by presentations, panels, book and magazine sales and nuances with the artistic work of other demonstrations.
Guantanamo-Baracoa Theatrical Crusade
It is one of the most important cultural events in the Cuban mountains. Every January 28, it begins a new tour of around 200 villages and communities in six municipalities of Guantanamo territory with the presence of national and foreign artists of the performing arts.
Baracoese Culture Week

Baracoenses Carnivals
They are annual celebrations at the beginning of April, with a summer program that allows the recreation to children and adults, ready to cool the hot weather mainly in the areas of the boardwalk, is a good opportunity to know the traditions of the Baracoenses, you can find parades Of congas, decorated floats and folkloric characters. It dances with groups with the chords of the genuine Cuban son.
Water Festival
It is celebrated from 10 to 15 of August, is one of the most important cultural events of the city. It takes place within the framework of the celebration of the anniversary of the foundation of the town where cultural activities are carried out that reflect the most diverse traditions and customs of the Primate City of Cuba.
Eliseo Osorio Event
It is a territorial hall of Plastic Arts in the Gallery of the Primada City of Cuba. It is held in June, the occasion of the birthday of the famous local artist who gives name to such a prestigious event in which collective exhibitions are held, conferences, art criticism and tours of cultural facilities in the city.
Wood Carving Contest Guayacán
Made in November, hands and creativity are united each year in one of the biggest attractions of the contest, the creative workshop Ramón Domínguez in Memoriam space where occasional spectators or followers of this art will enjoy the creators' skills to shape a piece of Guayacan, one of the hardest and most beautiful wood for handicrafts.
The event will also complement actions such as the inauguration of the expo-competition, visits by institutions and creative workshops, photo exhibitions of past competitions, cultural exchange with promoters and settlers, conferences and critics related to this project of the plastic arts.
Balseros del Toa Festival
It takes place in August in greeting to the Anniversary of the Primada City of Cuba. The rafts have to cross the important tributary moving on board their cayucas (rustic bamboo rafts), standing in the stern, taking advantage of the hectic currents and driven with a lever or rod. In addition to the competitive stage, some of the functions of these peculiar boats (transport of fruits and vegetables) are shown, some of the most used and preferred means of transport in the area. In this contest the Baracoan traditions are relived; with their development, the participants delight in memories of yesteryear told by those who once sailed on light bamboo boats.
Typical Dishes Festivals
More than 20 cultural and recreational festivals of typical dishes are made in Baracoa throughout the year. Samples of dishes prepared following products such as guineo, coconut, caco, seafood, guapén, tetí, among others.
