MUSIC IN MATANZAS

The city of Matanzas, also known as La Atenas de Cuba, is the birthplace of many musicians among which stand out: José Silvestre White, Miguel Faílde, creator of the danzonete and Dámaso Pérez Prado, creator of the mambo.

The rumba, declared intangible heritage of humanity, with its brilliant drumming, its impulsive step, more than a dance, a song was born in Matanzas.

At present, cultural events dedicated to danzón and other dance manifestations are being developed. There are prominent groups such as Orquesta Miguel Failde, the Muñequitos de Matanzas, as well as various orchestras with members of the Buena Vista Social Club, which has a place every Wednesday in Plaza América.

In addition, in the cultural centers of Varadero and Matanzas you can enjoy the most varied Cuban rhythms.
