Isle of Youth
For both the Island and Cuba, culture is one of the sources of development and is a way to access an intellectual, artistic, professional and spiritual development. It has great importance and the destination dedicates big efforts.
In the cultural roots of Isle of Youth we find elements of the Spanish, African, north American, Caymanian and Japanese cultures, which preserve their identity and their traditions. Cultural journeys with the intervention of national and local artists in direct communication with the audience take place.
The culture’s mission is to promote and spread the art and culture. The Department of Culture, located in Nueva Gerona, is formed by the Center of the Music, Scenic Arts, Visual Arts, Book and Literature, Cinema, Radio, Television, Artistic Teaching, Libraries, Art Galleries and Plastic Arts.
A big cultural work is done in Isle of Youth, since it’s all about showing this privilege among the population, taking all the cultural manifestations to the less suspected corner of the municipality.
In each one of the social circles that were built in the different towns, televisions, popular libraries and the daily newspaper were placed.
The Workshop-School of Plastic Arts was formed in 1962 by five teachers; art workshops were held in the towns of Santa Fe, Argelia and Demajagua.
The concerts band of the Estado Mayor del Ejercito was founded in 1962, made by 27 military musicians.
The movement of amateurs is promoted in the unions, schools, camps and towns.
