Nature
Located in the eastern limit of the Guaniguanico mountain range is the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve, which brings together 800 plant species with 34 percent endemism and the presence of most species that inhabit the island, especially the zunzun or bird fly, famous for being the smallest bird in the world, accompanied by the tocororo and the woodpecker.
In this area is located Soroa, cradle of the largest orchid of Cuba where 750 varieties -250 of them national- await visitors to offer their colors and aromas. It also offers us the options of its viewpoint, walks through open shortcuts among the vegetation in search of specimens of plants and animals, tours of the Manantiales river with its famous waterfall and the baths in its medicinal waters, complemented with access to the ruins of old French coffee plantations.
The Sierra del Rosario also contains the Las Terrazas Tourist Complex, dominated by amazing landscapes, more than 800 plant species and 73 types of birds in a protected area where endemics achieve high population rates, in its surroundings there are hot spring baths - sulphurous and natural-, the springs of the San Juan river, camping bases, trails and routes.
The Sierra del Rosario
Most of this mountainous farmhouse is located in the central-western end of the province is, without doubt, the most important tourist destination of Artemis and a destination of nature par excellence, although historical and cultural values of great interest are also present , mainly in ruins of coffee plantations of the 18th and 19th centuries.It has a total extension of 250.70 Km2 of mountainous geography and exuberant nature, it was the first Biosphere Reserve of Cuba, declared by UNESCO in 1985. It occupies the eastern half of the Guaniguanico Mountain Range and has the main elevations throughout the West of the island (maximum of 692 m above sea level), as well as beautiful valleys and crystalline rivers that invite you to the dip and where a rare species inhabits Cuba, the water lizard. Its beautiful landscapes are the scene of two tourist destinations of national importance: Soroa and Las Terrazas, separated from each other by about 20 km and joined by a paved road, passable all year round.There the natural and cultural attractions are harmoniously combined, with the town of Las Terrazas being the place where you can best see a sustainable interaction between nature and human beings in Cuba.
