The mission of the Artemisa Provincial Department of Public Health is: direct, execute and control the implementation of the policy of the State and the Government regarding Public Health; it takes part in the training of health professionals and the development of medical sciences, and enforces the adjustments or territorial policies dictated by the Municipal Assembly of People's Power.
There are the "Ciro Redondo" General Hospital, located in Artemisa and the "Comandante Pinares", in San Cristóbal (before it belonged to Pinar del Río), it is now the largest in the province with 480 beds. The General Hospital of Guanajay is now the Provincial Pediatric Hospital. There are polyclinics in all municipalities. There are also scientific research centers for agricultural sciences, among them the Tobacco Research Institute and the National Center for Parasitology of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine (both in San Antonio de los Baños), as well as the Grain Research Institutes (in Bauta). ).
