Cinema in Havana
In Havana, before the arrival of the Lumiere dealership, presentations had been made ranging from the most primitive to the most advanced of the nascent cinematographic art; a show almost identical to French, named Kinetoscope, invented by Edison. The staging were held in makeshift barracks that proliferated around the central park and the former Tacon theater, today the Great Theater of Havana.
In January 1897 the Frenchman Gabriel Veyre introduced the cinematographer Lumiere in Cuba. He arrived in Havana on January 15, 1897, rented a place, acquired a few dozen chairs, carried out the pertinent works to achieve a certain evening darkness in the room, and on the 23rd he gave a sample of his show to the authorities and the press.
