Cuban literature in Cienfuegos
Cienfuegos literary creation has been prolific from beginnings of the seventeenth century to the present. Among the most outstanding exponents of Cienfuegos literature are Clotilde del Carmen Rodríguez, known as La Hija del Damují, who was the first person born in Cienfuegos to dedicate herself to poetry and creator of the city's flag. Antonio Hurtado del Valle, Adelaida Sainz de la Peña, Mercedes Matamoros, Aurelia Castillo de González, are other famous poets and writers of the beautiful southern pearl.

Cienfuegos is the scene of the important international literary event for the Casa de las Américas award, where important personalities from the national and international literary arena come together, hosting this event for many years, in January, the Hotel Jagua by Meliá. We also have the Queen of the Sea event where the awarded works are edited (Queen of the Sea, Patrons editorial) and published. Every year the International Book Fair is also held, where works by prominent local writers are marketed: among them we can mention Jesús Fuentes Guerra, Atilio Caballero Menéndez, Carmen Cutié, Luis Esteban Ramirez Cabrera, among others.
