Carnivals in Las Tunas
With a long history that has its roots in the patron saint festivities of Saint Jerome, the carnivals of Las Tunas are part of the most valuable cultural heritage of this city. As far back as 1709, the villagers participated massively in the celebrations. However, only after 1910 the festivities acquired carnival characteristics, with the organization of a parade through the central street. Costumes dances were also organized in the clubs and in the collateral streets. The socio-economic transformations of the country from 1959 also had their echo in the carnivals of Las Tunas that became much more genuine and popular, because the race, age or social position, were not an impediment to enjoy.
Remembrance of the Burning of the City
The remembrance of the burning of the city is one of the traditions of Las Tunas, Cuba that enjoy greater recognition. During the struggle for the independence of Cuba from the Spanish colonialism,Las Tunas city was burned on 3 occasions. But the most important of them occurred in the year 1876, when & nbsp; Major General Vicente García, illustrious son of Las Tunas, and other independents set it on fire, because they preferred to see it Burned Before Slave.
This action was initiated precisely from the house of the Major General now turned into a Memorial, declared a National Monument in the year 1996 and nowadays it is a tradition that every 26th of September the remembrance of this fact is celebrated through a fascinating ceremony.

The Caldosa of Kike and Marina
The idea started at a neighborhood party on July 25, 1979, when the marriage composed by José Enrique Pérez Rodríguez and Luz Marina Zaldívar Calzadilla, Kike and Marina, delighted a crowd of people. Thanks to the artists, the tasty dish and the two chefs, was born the happy idea of building a restaurant specializing in that food outside the city, exactly in San Antonio de El Cornito. The gastronomic establishment opened its doors in 1983 and, since its emergence, tens of thousands of people have enjoyed the place and its offers, including many travelers who stop there to eat the typical Caldosa of Las Tunas, whose recipe include meats, numerous condiments and chicken meat. Currently, the caldosa tunera is prepared in most of the celebrations, personal or collective throughout the country, where it has been called the most popular dish of Cubans.
