Nautical Activities in Granma
To the south of Granma province, in the western region of Cuba and very close to Desembarco del Granma National Park and Cabo Cruz, declared Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO, is Marea del Portillo with facilities of all-inclusive accommodation.
This coastal zone is continued in a cove that shelters an excellent beach of dark sands. Among its treasures of great patrimonial value are seventeenth and nineteenth century sunken ships, Spanish galleons, English schooners and in particular boats belonging to the famous fleet of Almirante Cervera: an old galleon of 36 guns and the battleship Christopher Columbus, both appreciably well preserved.
Towards Cabo Cruz, deep scenarios are opened around coral formations and sponges, coral colonies, elk horn coral (Acropora cervicornis), sea fans (Gorgonia spp.), Gorgonians and a large variety of fish are found.
