Project Marabana-Maracuba will open the festivities of Inder to celebrate Havana’s 500 years foundation
The 500-century of the foundation of the Cuban capital and the 115th anniversary of the fourth place obtained by the walker “Andarín Carvajal” at the San Luis Olympic Games (1904), will be the perfect motivation to nearly 6000 runners that will participate in the Marabana 2019 race, on November 10th.
In a press conference held on Wednesday at the Latinoamericano stadium, Carlos Gattorno, founder and current coordinator of the Marabana-Maracuba project, reported that so far, about 1080 foreigners from 61 countries y about 3150 Cuban have been registered.
Prior to the 42 kms run will begin at 6:30 in the morning in front of Parque Central, on account of the intense heats in Cuba, there will be a series of activities such as placing a floral tribute in front of the equestrian statue of Jose Marti; an Afro-Cuban cultural festival; the musical performance of La Bayamesa and Yo soy el punto Cubano; the release of several pigeons and an homage to the walker Andarín Carvajal, in which the volunteers will blow a whistle as he used to do at the beginning of the 20th century.
